Q: Can your illuminators run on batteries?

A: The majority of our products run off either 5 or 12 volts, so yes, it is technically possible to convert our illuminators to run on batteries. However, we currently ship all our products with a standard power supply and do not as yet offer an out-of-the-box battery solution.

Q: How/Where do I buy your products?

A: Currently, the best way of ordering any of the products you see on the website is by giving us a call at (541) 228-3650. You can also drop us a line via our contact page, and if you provide us with the necessary information, we'd be happy to get back to you.

Q: Are your illuminators waterproof?

A: Like most electronics, the illuminators themselves should not be exposed to excessive moisture or placed under water. However, this does not mean that the optical fiber coming out of the illuminator can't be exposed to the elements or even submersed. Since the fiber is powered with light and not electricity, it is perfectly safe for the fiber to come into contact with water.

Q: What are the advantages of LEDs over other means of illumination?

A: Light emitting diodes, or LEDs have many benefits associated with their use. Being solid state, they are extremely reliable, and with an average lifetime of 50-100,000 hours, they rarely need replacing. LEDs also produce lower heat than conventional means of illumination, and they requre less power. Furthermore, as LEDs becoming more and more powerful , we will certainly see more applications for their use. And, as LEDs become more and more commonplace, we will also notice a significant drop in price, making them an affordable, as well as intelligent, choice.

Q: What do you mean by the term "Eco-Efficient?"

A: As we've all heard the phrases "eco friendly" and "energy efficient," we think "Eco-Efficient" encapsulates the best of both worlds, as our products use less power than conventional lighting methods, and our unique and patented technology allows us to provide LED products with higher efficiency.

Q: Can I use multiple fibers with your illuminators?

A: Yes, you may use as many fibers as you can fit into the port. So, if you're using stranded fiber with our 1/2" port, you might be able to fit hundreds of fibers into that space. This is possible becuse our cable grips hold the fiber snugly in place, regardless of whether you have 1, 10, or 100 fibers connected to our illuminators.

Q: Do you have a multi-port unit available?

A: We are currently working on several multi-port units for our line of illuminators. Please check with us after the beginning of 2008 for availability.

Q: What's next for LBI?

A: We've got our pokers in many different fires here at Light Beam, but beyond expanding and improving our existing core group of products like illuminators and light panels, we plan to continue exploring new areas of interest like solar technology, and as LEDs become more commonplace in both residential homes and commercial work spaces, you will start seeing LED-based lighting fixtures a part of our offering of products.
